Now, for your first online blog assignment. Consider the following quotation:
Don't do whatever you like; like whatever you do. --Anne M. Jennings
Describe an instance where you have applied this advice in your own life or a situation in which you could give it a try. Life is full of amazing possibilities. Above is a picture from the NASA Rover currently exploring Mars. Who would have ever thought it would be possible to send back images from Mars?
It is our attitude that can lift us up or hold us back if we let it. Consider how our attitudes can be changed if we will try to see the potential in any given situation and, in turn, how different the outcome could be if our attitudes towards the situation are different. What good things could come from having a good attitude about something new? Please have your response posted by 11:59 PM on Tuesday, August 19.

When considering the quote "Don't do whatever you like; like whatever you do." - Anne M. Jennings I have experienced a lot of situations that can relate to this quote. One being how when I was an eighth grader I really wanted to do cheerleading just because my older sister was one and every time I watched her do it I thought it looked like so much fun. Then the day came when the past cheerleaders had a meeting for any of the upcoming freshman who was interested and I wasn't sure if I wanted to go for two reasons; one being that I didn't have any close friends doing it and then the other reason being is I was intimidated by all the older girls so it made me think twice about it. So I talked myself into it finally and it was probably one of the best decisions I made. I am so glad that I went against my fears and went to that meeting. And for that, today cheerleading is my life and that is how me and Miriam became best friends! If you have a positive attitude going into something then the outcome will most likely always come back in a good way or turn into something that you never would have thought you would have liked.
ReplyDeleteWhat ever I do I learn to like it most times I don't get what I like to do but I wand up liking the things that I have to do. I mean if ur stuck doing it then make the best out of it like school for me I don't like it but I make it fun and where I can like it. For example art I hate it last year I was in there 10 minutes before I left and switched out. This year I have to take it to graduate so I'm stuck in it but I make all the kids laugh and have a good time expectlly Kesey steele. Mis stimulus class's I don't care for but still I do my best to like it and make it so I like it
ReplyDeleteAt your job you do something you might not like. But if you come to like it , by putting on the happy face. Then you love it. You might not always get the job you want. So you can apply this quote to your job.
ReplyDeleteDon't do whatever you like; like whatever you do. This quote means a lot in my life. Often I find myself in situations such as work that I'm not necessarily happy with. Although I like what I am doing. I like having a job. I'm great full to be able to have a job and make money. To have a good attitude at work makes you enjoy it better. Although its work I like working at my job and making money. Sometimes I may not like working or want to but I do because it is my responsibility.
ReplyDeleteWhen reading the quote, "Don't do whatever you like; like whatever you do", by Anne M. Jennings, many instances came in mind in which I didn't let my guard down and refused to try something new. An example is driving into Springfield by myself or trying different kinds of food. I'm probably one of the pickiest people and I will always be. People ask me to try new things but I refuse to do so. I have to smell things before I eat it, so if it doesn't smell good, you best believe I won't try it. Even if it smells good, I still have a hard time on overcoming my fear and trying new things. Because of the attitude it gives me, it's holding me back on trying something new.
ReplyDeletei have applied this in school in certain classes like math i enjoy it alot the same can go for otc. Other than that i haven't applied that advice to everyday life. I personally think having a good attitude helps in certain situations. For example when trying to cheer someone up its always better to have a smile. When in an interview a smile can go a long way or when seeing your family for the first time in a long time.
ReplyDeleteWhatever you are doing like it by making the best that you can make it. Many times in life I wouldn't have accomplished something if I hadn't made the best of the situation. Liking what you are doing makes the situation much more enjoyable. If I were to make all volleyball practices negative and give up I would only be making things worse by holding myself back and not liking it and making the best out of it. If I were to make every practice negative and harder for myself it would only making things worse and I would be making no progress. If I were to go into practice every day with a good attitude and do my best give it my all keep working toward my goals I would make progress. Having a bad attitude doesn't solve any problems it just makes those problems either stay the same or get worse. Liking what you are doing and having a good attitude you can fix or change your problems by looking at the brighter side and outweighing the bad with the good. Just going about things in a positive way can make your day much better and you will be able to achieve much more and reach higher goals.
ReplyDeleteA situation where you could use this in your own life is with a new job. For instance say you get fired from the perfect job that you loved, so you have to go out and find a new career or job. You get hired as a garbage man, not the most glamorous job but it's an income that you can't afford without. So you go to work everyday put in your hours and work hard. After several years of working you get promoted and are now a high ranking person in the business. Then one day you get asked if you wanted be the president of of the business and obviously you take the job. Then you look back at the day you got fired from a perfect job and think " I'm so glad I became a garbage man". That is how loving what you do can get you so many places in life. In this case having a good attitude would be essential, because this person had to of taken passion in what he did as a garbage man to be able to get anywhere in life.
ReplyDeleteWhile reading this saying, it certainly connects with me a good amount. As a kid, I was definitely a person that did what I wanted, and I liked whatever I did. But going along with the attitude part, maybe a little different. For example, when I was probably three or four years of age, I would be the one to complain or whine whenever someone got something that I may have wanted, or if somebody got something that they may not have deserved. Looking back now, as a more mature and grown up individual, I would definitely handle the situation different and in a more possitive way. But another situation maybe not. When I was a little younger, I was a fairly good amount bigger. So resulting from that I was picked on and teased a good amount. Going back from now, even as being a more mature person, I would probably handle the situation with violence or just get my self into trouble. Either way, there are situations that I would handle positively and also situations that I would handle negatively.
ReplyDeleteTechnology has came a long way from back then to now it got "smarter" you could say. you get to learn something new, if you're negative about something or you don't like the idea of something new coming in it can affect you greatly because if you don't like it it, it can have an effect on other people as well. People who follow you, or like the same things you like can look at is as if "oh well She doesn't like it so why should I". People who are negative can bring a lot of people down. Same goes for people who like to start drama, if you keep going, keep making fun of someone other people will lead in the conversations and the tauntings. But if you decide that having a positive outlook will help greatly than most people who have that outlook depend greatly on a good day and things work out that way.
ReplyDeleteI have had a instance to where I had to like whatever I did. When ever I work or have to do some kind of job or something I don't like it. It is a lot simpler if you just make work fun or like whatever you do. I have to enjoy it or it will last forever. Just get it over with and it is done and you don't have to worry about it. The other question about everyone's attitude is a very good question. Everyone would be so much more happy and not fight nod the world would be a better place. There would be no wars and it would be great.
ReplyDeleteEver since last year I was always afraid to play basketball and I never would because in my head I thought I sucked. I mean people always say I'm uncoordinated and I believe them so I never really tried out. I finally realized that I'm 6'4 230 and I'm a beast on the football field so that's were I ended up! Even tho I love football I still think about playing basketball but I just never seen any outcome coming out of it! Like what would they use me for because I can't make a shot to save my life. Well this year I've thought a lot about playing because it could help me and I may be good but I don't think I will! I think football is my type of sport because I have colleges looking at me and I may succeed at that and if I don't I can still say I played college ball.
ReplyDeleteFor me in this situation, I would probably say that I do enjoy helping animals. So I could see myself going to college to become a vet. It would make me feel good about myself to go and help other people and their pets. Also if i enjoyed the job, I would end up keeping the job and ending up making a good pay for a lifetime. You just got to be happy with your job to like what you do, if you don't it can change your whole outlook on you job. If I didn't enjoy being a vet and then I could end up slacking and possibly just giving up on it because i didn't believe enough in myself to keep my job. Then if i quit and wanted another better job then I would have to end up going back to college for something else, taking more time from my hands. If I enjoy my job then I wouldn't have to worry about trying to search for another job that I could possibly not like.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was younger, I learned how to barrel race from a trainer. She would tell me what I needed to do, but I didn't listen and did it my own way. My way was always wrong. I was having too much fun doing it my way. I didn't take the lesson very seriously. As I got older, I'd listen and learn the right way and with discipline and the right attitude. I was winning the races. I can't always win but with the right attitude and the determination I can be a winner. A positive attitude effects my runs. When you walk in the arena with a negative attitude, the horse and your run can be effected. It's like a job. When you walk in the office with a positive attitude, people notice and you bring the positive vibe. Or walking with a negative attitude, people will feel it and will turn against you. I don't go racing and do whatever I want. I go in with a positive attitude and come out as a winner.
