Hey-Soos Dreams - Deadline

On page 49, Hey-Soos tells Ben "...you worry about your legacy and you'll spend all your time trying to create something you have no control over.  It's all in good works, my man.  It's about influence, about what people do in your name after you're gone."

In no less than 75 words, describe what you think Hey-Soos means by this piece of advice..AND...what "good work" has Ben decided to focus on and why?  Your entry needs to be posted by 10 PM January 22nd.

  1. I believe that Hey-Soos is simply saying that Ben needs to stop becoming somebody he isn't already. When you pass away people are going to remember the things YOU had done, not what the pretend Ben has done. It's better and easier to be yourself than somebody else. From my own perspective, I can honestly say that people remember my brother from his humorous personality and his contagious smile. So why wouldn't Ben want people to remember him as the 130 pound guy that runs cross country and never had the guts to ask Dallas Suzuski out?
There isn't many good works coming from Ben. He is trying to live his life how he wanted it to be years ago. I think that Ben might be happier if he chose the treatment, lived, and then pursued his dreams of being with Dallas Suzuski.

  2. I think that Hey-Soos was trying to tell Ben that he has no control over when he is going to die. Therefore there is no need to spend all of his time worrying about when his time is going to come to an end, because that won't help anything. I think that Hey-Soos is trying to tell him that everything will work out just fine in the long run. Also Hey-Soos is saying that Ben doesn't have to worry about making a name for himself before he dies its about doing good things for others, so that they will remember all of the good qualities that Ben had after his is gone. Ben has done good work like trying to live his life to the fullest. Ben has tried out for the football team, he has put all of his effort into every play. He has also helped his brother out with plays and understanding them. Ben went after his dream girl Dallas and got her, he has given his all in what he does because he now has nothing to lose.

  3. I think Hey-Soos is trying to tell Ben to live his life how he wants but to remember that his time is coming to an end. In my eyes, I feel like Ben is trying to become someone he isn't. I mean, could you imagine having cancer and only having a year to live? Not knowing when your last breath could be? I couldn't. I think Ben is doing the right thing by living his life how he always wanted, but I think he needs to live his life for HIMSELF, not for everyone to remember when he's gone. He's doing everything he can to make an impact on everyone, but wouldn't he want to be remembered as the real Ben or the Ben he's trying to become? Although I do believe the "good work" is living everyday like it's his last. You never know when it could be.

  4. I think what hey soos means is that you can't force things to happen so that your future will be better! He means you gotta live your life now and have fun And try to accomplish as much as possible before you go that way your legend lives on and people will remember you for a long time. Ben doesn't have much time to live and he is trying to force everything to happen all at once. Once Ben joined football and he finally realized life isn't that long you gotta enjoy it while you can! But I think what he is telling Ben is that no matter what impact life gives or throws at you you just need to move on and let the future build itself. You can't force something to happen in life if its not meant to be! You gotta live with the moment and be you and be free because at any point of any day you could die
